The G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration underscores the unequivocal stance of all member nations that the use or threat of nuclear weapons is unacceptable. India's G20 presidency achieved a significant milestone as consensus was reached on the New Delhi Declaration, following several rounds of negotiations that had failed to produce an agreement on the text related to the Ukraine crisis.

During the second session of the summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts that led to the consensus. He emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of the UN Charter, particularly those related to territorial integrity, sovereignty, and the prohibition of the use of force for territorial acquisition. The declaration firmly denounces the use or threat of using nuclear weapons.

The declaration also addresses the profound global impacts of the war in Ukraine, including its repercussions on food and energy security, supply chains, macro-financial stability, inflation, and economic growth.

These consequences have complicated the policy landscape, particularly for developing and least-developed countries still grappling with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic disruptions, which have disrupted progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While acknowledging varying perspectives and assessments of the situation, the declaration highlights the urgency of addressing these challenges.

Emphasizing the imperative for diplomacy, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution, the declaration calls on all states to uphold the principles of international law, including territorial integrity, sovereignty, and international humanitarian law. It underscores the importance of the multilateral system in preserving global peace and stability.

The G20 leaders express their commitment to addressing the adverse economic impacts of the war in Ukraine and welcome constructive initiatives that support a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region. This peace should align with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and promote peaceful, friendly, and cooperative relations among nations, consistent with the overarching theme of the G20 summit: "One Earth, One Family, One Future."

In sum, the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration resounds with a collective commitment to peace and stability, advocating for the resolution of conflicts through diplomacy and dialogue while affirming the unwavering rejection of nuclear weapons. It reflects a shared vision of a world where the era of war gives way to a future of cooperation and unity.
