Ghazipur District on alert after death of Mukhtar Ansari: Magisterial probe initiated
The district administration of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh is on high alert following the demise of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, as stated by the district Superintendent of Police, Omvir Singh.
Mukhtar Ansari, who was incarcerated, passed away in a hospital located in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday.
"Since this news came to light last night, the entire district administration has been on alert. We are in constant touch with the family, and they have informed us that the last rites will be performed after the morning prayers," Omvir Singh informed reporters in Ghazipur.
Singh cautioned that anyone violating the Model Code of Conduct, in place for the upcoming general election, would face consequences.

"As people are expected to gather to pay their respects, arrangements have been made accordingly. However, I appeal to everyone to abide by the Model Code of Conduct. If anyone breaches it, appropriate legal action will be taken," he emphasized.
In response to Ansari's death, a three-member team will conduct a magisterial investigation, with orders issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Banda. Additionally, a panel of two doctors will conduct the post-mortem, which will be recorded on video.

Following the post-mortem, Mukhtar Ansari's body will be handed over to his son, Umar Ansari. Umar Ansari expressed his preference for the post-mortem to be conducted by doctors at AIIMS, Delhi, citing distrust in the local medical system, government, and administration.
"We are hopeful that the court will address our concerns during the investigation. We will seek guidance from our legal team. We firmly believe that this is not a natural death but a premeditated murder," Umar Ansari asserted.
Mukhtar Ansari, a controversial figure, had been serving a 10-year prison sentence since April 2023 for the murder of BJP MLA Krishnanand Rai. Additionally, he was sentenced to life imprisonment on March 13, 2024, in a case related to the use of forged documents to obtain an arms license in 1990.
