Hamas' 'Worst Massacre' Claims 700 Lives, Leaves 2,300 Injured: Israeli Defence Force(IDF)
In a major escalation, Hamas launched a "surprise attack" on Israel on October 7, resulting in what the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) describe as the "worst massacre of Israeli civilians" in history. Rockets rained down on southern and central parts of Israel, causing significant devastation.
The IDF has reported more than 700 fatalities and 2,300 injuries, and they fear these numbers may rise further as the situation unfolds. Major Libby Weiss, spokesperson for the IDF, called the horrors witnessed during this attack nearly indescribable.
The release of hostages was discussed during the press conference. Major Weiss stated that while details of IDF plans couldn't be disclosed for security reasons, their commitment to bringing the hostages home remained unwavering.
Lior Haiat, spokesperson for the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reiterated the allegation that Iran serves as the primary financier of terror organizations in the Middle East.
In response to the Hamas attack, Israel mobilized an unprecedented 300,000 troops in just 48 hours, marking the largest call-up since the 1973 Yom Kippur War when 400,000 reservists were summoned.
The IDF continued airstrikes, targeting Hamas terror group assets, as part of its retaliation against the aggressors. The situation remains fluid and fraught with tension.
