New Delhi gearing for successful G20
The capital is getting ready for the coming big days of 9th and 10th September for G20 summit. New Delhi will be hosting 18th G20 summit for which the preparations have been going on for past months.

To ensure security, safety and smooth going for the event, schools, colleges and offices will remain close on 7th, 8th and 9th September.
Let us dig into the details of New Delhi's readiness and G20 Summit details
Holidays Declared
Schools and colleges will remain close for 3 days in Delhi. Government offices will also be remain close for 8,9 and 10 September including MCD offices. All private offices will also remain close during this period.
Apart from this Delhi Police's New Delhi District will also face some restrictions. All private offices will be closed for this period. Along with this even banks and financial institutions will remain close in the district. Shops and commercial institutions will also remain close.
Traffic and Other Restrictions
Heavy vehicles will be restricted to enter the borders of Delhi from 7th September Midnight till the completion of summit. However heavy vehicles already in the region can exit border. It is important to notice that vehicles carrying essential goods such as milk, medicines, vegetables, ration items, and petroleum will be allowed to enter the border.
The main roads that will be used by dignitaries will be from Airport to 18 Hotels where their stay arrangements are made. Out of these 18 hotels, 16 hotels are in Delhi and 2 are located in Gurugram. Hotels like Taj Hotel, Ashoka Hotel, The Leela Palace are booked for the stay of dignitaries.
Certain metro stations may also remain closed during this time. These metro stations are Supreme Court, Khan Market, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat.

Separate Cars for dignitaries
For the movement of dignitaries, each Carcade will consist around 10-15 cars. The union government has specially rented 28 Left Hand Driven cars to carry dignitaries. Paramilitary officials are specially trained to drive these cars.
“There will be no hassle with the left hand-driven vehicles since they will be moving in a Carcade and will simply follow the rules and the cars ahead of them,” said a police official.
Apart from these, protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar will be restricted for these 3 days.
Rehearsal Carried Out
Delhi Police on Monday carried a carcade rehearsal to check the routes and traffic management to ensure hassle free movement when VIPs will be utilizing those routes. These carcade rehearsals were carried out from hotels to the G20 venue in Pragati Maidan.
What is G20
The Group of Twenty (G20) comprises 19 countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Türkiye, United Kingdom and United States) and the European Union.
These G20 member countries hold about two thirds of the worlds population, a significant 85% of worlds GDP and 75% of global trade. These numbers indicate the importance of this forum and the change these countries can together bring.
G20 as a forum was instituted in 1999 after the the Asian financial crisis. The aim of this forum was to provide a platform for the finance ministers of the g20 countries to undertake discussions on world economic and financial issues along with the governors of central banks.
In the year 2008 G20 started including the heads of states and governments which levitated the status of the forum.
In 2009 the forum was labelled as “premier forum for international economic cooperation”, but it also includes trade, sustainable development, health, agriculture, energy, environment, climate change, and anti-corruption.
G20 areas of work
The G20 Presidency guides the G20's yearly agenda and hosts its summit. It operates through two pathways: the Finance Track led by Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, and the Sherpa Track led by Sherpas who are representatives of member countries' leaders.
The Sherpas from member nations manage the G20 process and coordinate discussions throughout the year. The Finance Track focuses on financial matters and is driven by the Ministry of Finance, with working groups meeting regularly. These groups involve representatives from member countries' relevant ministries, invited countries, and international organizations.
Engagement Groups bring together various stakeholders like civil societies, parliamentarians, think tanks, women, youth, labor representatives, businesses, and researchers from G20 countries.
Rather than having a permanent secretariat, the G20 relies on a Troika system for support, consisting of the previous, ongoing, and upcoming Presidencies. For India's Presidency, the Troika will involve Indonesia, India, and Brazil in succession.

Argentina President- Alberto Fernandez, Austrailia PM Anthony Albanese, Chinese President Xi Jinping, France President Emmanuel Macron, Canadian PM Justin Pierre James Trudeau, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Indian PM Narendra Modi, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, Japan PM Fumio Kishida, Italy PM Giorgia Meloni, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Saudi Arabia King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, UK PM Rishi Sunak, USA President Joe Biden, EU Council President Charles Michel, EU Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen.
Along with these, heads of Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain, UAE are also invited.
