NIA Investigates Lakhbir Singh Landa: Alleged Khalistani Terrorist in Canada
In a significant move aimed at intensifying its efforts to apprehend individuals involved in Khalistani terrorism, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has declared cash rewards for information leading to the capture of key operatives.
Foremost among these is Lakhbir Singh Sandhu, infamously known as 'Landa,' who is intricately linked with the proscribed terrorist organization, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
The NIA has announced a substantial cash reward of Rs.10 lakh for Landa and another BKI member, Harwinder Singh Sandhu, alias 'Rinda.' Additionally, a reward of Rs.5 lakh each has been offered for information regarding Parminder Singh Kaira, known as 'Pattu,' Satnam Singh, also recognized as 'Satbir Singh' and 'Satta,' and Yadvinder Singh, alias 'Yadda.'
Lakhbir Singh 'Landa': A Notorious Profile
Lakhbir Singh 'Landa,' hailing originally from Tarn Taran in Punjab, is believed to have found sanctuary in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. His association with Harvinder Singh, alias Rinda, a gangster-turned-terrorist based in Pakistan, solidified after he fled to Canada in 2017.
A Trail of Criminal Offenses
Landa has accumulated an extensive list of criminal charges, spanning multiple districts in Punjab. This includes grave offenses such as murder, attempted murder, and drug smuggling, with the first recorded case dating back to July 2011, involving a murder attempt and firearms violations in Harike Pattan.
Daring Acts of Terrorism
Notably, he was implicated in the audacious RPG attack on the Punjab Police intelligence headquarters in Mohali and the clandestine placement of an improvised explosive device (IED) beneath a sub-inspector's vehicle in Amritsar.
NIA's Uncovering: International Terrorist Collaboration
The NIA initiated its case in 2022, uncovering a startling collaboration between overseas-based terrorist outfits and organized criminal gangs operating in the northern regions of India. Their sinister agenda encompassed targeted killings and violent criminal acts with the explicit intent to disrupt peace and communal harmony in Punjab.
Lakhbir Singh 'Landa' and the other individuals on the NIA's most-wanted list are charged with planning acts of terrorism, raising funds for BKI through the smuggling of arms and narcotics into Punjab, and engaging in extensive extortion activities, often targeting businessmen and prominent individuals.
Trudeau's Allegations and India's Response
These recent developments follow Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's provocative allegations of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June. India has emphatically rejected these allegations, dismissing them as "absurd and motivated."
Advisory for Indian Citizens in Canada
Owing to a surge in anti-India activities and hate crimes, India's external affairs ministry has issued an advisory to its citizens residing in Canada, advising them to exercise "utmost caution" in their surroundings. This advisory underscores the growing concern over the intensification of activities related to the Khalistani movement and the need for vigilance within the Indian diaspora in Canada.
