Prince William's Meeting with UN Chief in New York: Key Discussion Points
Prince William, currently in New York for the Earthshot Prize Innovation summit, met with United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres to engage in discussions centered on "accelerating the fight against climate change and environmental protection," according to a UN spokesperson.
Prince William's visit coincided with the annual high-level gathering of world leaders at the UN General Assembly. Antonio Guterres is poised to host a climate ambition summit with a "no-nonsense" approach. Additionally, leaders convened at the United Nations to focus on the Sustainable Development Goals on Monday and Tuesday.
The Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit, which Prince William is attending, serves as a platform to unveil this year's finalists for the prestigious award. Launched by Prince William in 2020, the Earthshot Prize seeks innovative solutions to pressing environmental challenges. This marks Prince William's first visit to New York since 2014; he visited Boston in December last year for the Earthshot Prize award ceremony and met with US President Joe Biden.
In his arrival statement, Prince William highlighted the historical significance of the United Nations and expressed optimism about the capacity of his generation to take decisive actions toward a healthier and more sustainable world.
