Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was stopped in 2019
The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra was stopped in 2019 due to the Covid pandemic and tensions in India-China relations after the intrusion of the Chinese army on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) adjacent to eastern Ladakh.
The resumption of this yatra was agreed upon in the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in October 2024. Then both the leaders agreed to end the tension arising from April 2020. After this, the final decision was taken to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in a meeting between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
China supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor
This decision to resume the Mansarovar Yatra has come at a time when China has talked about supporting Pakistan during "Operation Sindoor". Pakistan also used weapons and missiles purchased from China. Recently, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a meeting with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, in which China has promised to provide more state-of-the-art weapons and other military equipment to the Pakistan Army.
