981 candidates filed nominations in Delhi elections, but everyone's eye on New Delhi seat
Out of 70 seats in Delhi Assembly elections, 29 candidates have filed nominations on the most high profile New Delhi seat. A total of 981 candidates have filed nominations for 70 seats in Delhi Assembly. Since a candidate can file more than one nomination form, the total number of nominations is 1523. Out of all 70, the maximum number of candidates have filed nominations on New Delhi seat.
Although New Delhi seat was at the top in terms of nominations, but if we look at the trend of seats, more nominations have been made on seats with rural and unauthorized colonies. While more than 20 candidates have filed nominations on seats like Matiala, Burari, Mundka, Rohtas Nagar and Laxmi Nagar.
70 seats in Delhi Assembly elections
In fact, New Delhi seat became more special since, apart from the current MLA and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Congress and BJP also fielded high profile candidates. Congress has fielded Sheila Dikshit's son and former MP Sandeep Dikshit as its candidate. BJP has fielded Pravesh Verma, son of former West Delhi MP and former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. Many independent candidates have also filed nominations from here to come into limelight.

Though New Delhi seat was the top in terms of nominations, but if we look at the trend of seats, more nominations have been made on seats with rural and unauthorized colonies.
New Delhi seat became more special
More than 20 candidates have filed nominations on seats like Matiala, Burari, Mundka, Rohtas Nagar and Laxmi Nagar. After New Delhi, 25 candidates have filed nominations in Matiala and 22 in Burari assembly constituency. It is worth noting that BJP has left Burari seat for its ally Nitish Kumar's party Janata Dal United.
More nominations have made on seats with rural and unauthorized colonies
While there was a flood of nominations for the assembly elections, less than 10 nominations have been made on many seats. The least number of nominations were made on Kasturbanagar seat which comes in New Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. Only 6 candidates have filed their nominations from Kasturba Nagar.
In Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh, Mangolpuri and Gandhinagar also less than 10 candidates have filed nominations. Among these Patel Nagar, Karol Bagh and Mangolpuri are reserved seats. 10 nomination papers have also been filed on Greater Kailash seat.
Summary
Today is the last date for scrutiny of nomination papers for Delhi Assembly elections. After this, candidates will be able to withdraw their nominations till January 20. The Election Commission will release the final list of candidates on January 20 itself, who will remain in the electoral fray.
Let us tell you that voting for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8. This time there is a triangular contest between Aam Aadmi Party, BJP and Congress in Delhi.
