"Advani fought to free India's democracy from one party & one family" Says PM Modi

In a recent public gathering in Sambalpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the prestigious Bharat Ratna award for veteran BJP leader LK Advani. Prime Minister Modi lauded Advani's relentless efforts throughout his career, emphasizing his dedication to freeing India's democracy from the grip of a single party and family.

"He (LK Advani) continuously fought to free India's democracy from the prison of one party and one family. He guided everyone and challenged 'pariwarwaadi vichardhara' (Dyanastic ideology) and linked India's democracy with the all-inclusive and nationalist ideology. Today we all are seeing the results of that. I would like to congratulate Advani Ji again and wish him a long life." stated Prime Minister Modi.

This marks the seventh Bharat Ratna conferred by the Modi government since coming into power in 2014, with previous recipients including Karpoori Thakur, Madan Mohan Malviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Pranab Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika, and Nanaji Deshmukh.

LK Advani, 96, expressed gratitude for the honor, stating, "With utmost humility and gratitude, I accept the 'Bharat Ratna' that has been conferred on me today. It is not only an honour for me as a person, but also for the ideals and principles that I strove to serve throughout my life to the best of my ability."

Advani, who served as Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Information and Broadcasting Minister, recalled his association with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and BJP ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya.

Expressing thanks to his family, party workers, and well-wishers, Advani said, My sincere thanks to President Droupadi Murmuji and Prime Minister Narendra Modiji for bestowing this honour on me. May our great country progress to the pinnacle of 'greatness and glory."

Opposition leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Sharad Pawar, also welcomed the decision, acknowledging Advani's significant contribution to the country's development. RJD leader Manoj Jha expressed happiness over the announcement of the Bharat Ratna for LK Advani.
