After Threatening Apple, Samsung Faces 25% Trump Tariff Threat. There Could Be More
US President Donald Trump has warned that a 25 percent tariff may soon be imposed on all smartphones made outside the country. These smartphones include Apple's iPhone as well as devices from Samsung and other companies. Trump said that if these smartphones are made in the US itself, then no tariff will be imposed. On the other hand, if they are made outside and sold in the US, then tariff will have to be paid.
Trump said, 'This policy will not only affect Apple, but it will be much more comprehensive than this. Samsung and other companies will also come under the purview of this tariff. Otherwise, it will not be fair. When they set up their plant here, there will be no tariff.'
This time Donald Trump made it clear that companies themselves - like Apple - will have to pay.

Trump had spoken to Tim Cook
Trump said in a social media post on Friday that he had already informed Apple CEO Tim Cook of his expectations. US President Donald Trump said, "I informed Apple's Tim Cook a long time ago that I expect their iPhones that will be sold in the US to be manufactured and built in the US, not in India or anywhere else.
If that doesn't happen, Apple will have to pay a tariff of at least 25% to the US."
Apple will continue to invest in India
This threat comes after a recent meeting between Trump and Cook. According to a White House official, Trump was unhappy with Apple's plans to transfer more iPhone production from China to India. Trump said, "I had an understanding with Tim that he would not do that.
He said he was going to India to build a plant. I said, 'It's okay to go to India, but you will not sell here without tariffs.'" After these statements by Trump, Apple has recently said that there has been no change in its India investment plans.
Inflation will increase in America
These new comments reflect a change in Trump's position. While he had previously said that other countries would bear the burden of tariffs, this time he made it clear that companies themselves - like Apple - will have to pay. This could mean inflation for consumers, because if import tariffs are imposed, Americans will have to spend more dollars to buy iPhones.
