Agni-5 missile testing successful, strike range up to 5 thousand KM
India on Wednesday successfully tested its Agni-5 medium-range ballistic missile from the Targeted Test Range at Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. This missile test has boosted the country's strategic defense capabilities. Officials said that all the operational and technical parameters of the missile were confirmed in this launch conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Force Command.
Agni-5 is a nuclear-capable ballistic missile developed by India's Defense Research and Development Organization.
It is the most advanced missile in the Agni series, a family of surface-to-surface ballistic missiles and the basis of India's land-based nuclear deterrent capability.
This missile has been designed with modern navigation, guidance, warhead and engine technologies, which enhance its strike capability and accuracy. Agni-5 is equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology. This allows a single missile to carry multiple nuclear warheads, each of which can be targeted at a different target, thereby increasing its tactical effectiveness.
This missile test has boosted the country's defense capabilities
While Agni-5 has undergone significant upgrades, including improved avionics, heat shielding and advanced systems to enhance operational performance. India is also working on incorporating MIRV (Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle) capability, which will allow a single missile to carry multiple warheads while targeting multiple targets, thereby increasing its deterrence capability manifold.
Agni-V has a range of more than 5000 kilometers
The whole of China comes under its range. Not only this, some parts of Europe and Africa will also be within its range. Medium-range ballistic missile Agni-5 was successfully tested on 20 August 2025 from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, Odisha. According to the Defense Ministry, operational and technical parameters were confirmed in test.

What is the specialty and capability of Agni-5?
It is the country's first and only surface-to-surface intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). The range of Agni-V is more than 5000 kilometers. The whole of China comes within its range, while many parts of Europe and Africa are also within its range. This missile is equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicles (MIRV) technology.
Once it is launched, it can attack multiple targets s. Agni-V has the capacity to carry up to one and a half tons of nuclear weapons. Meanwhile this is a big achievement in missile technology system. The entire technology, propulsion system, rocket, advanced navigation of this missile is 100 percent indigenous.
Agni-5 is capable of carrying multiple warheads simultaneously
Agni-5 missile is also equipped with an advanced MIRV (Multiple Independently-Targetable Re-entry Vehicle) features. Normal missiles carry only one warhead (that is, the part of the missile which is filled with explosives), but MIRV missiles can carry multiple warheads simultaneously. Its biggest feature is that multiple targets located hundreds of kilometers away can be attacked with a single missile. Not only this, if needed, multiple warheads can be fired simultaneously on a single target.
Summary
The successful test on August 20, 2025 under the Strategic Forces Command confirmed these advancements and confirmed India's growing technological self-reliance in long-range missile systems.
