Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi: Yesterday was a historic day for the nation and Gujarat. It was announced from Glasgow, Scotland, that Ahmedabad will host the Commonwealth Games 2030 (CWG 2030). The Commonwealth Sports General Assembly met in Glasgow yesterday, attended by Deputy Chief Minister Harshbhai Sanghvi, President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India Dr. P.T. Usha, and other members of the Indian delegation. During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Harshbhai Sanghvi delivered a special speech.

In his speech in Glasgow, Scotland, Deputy Chief Minister Harshbhai Sanghvi said, "I come from India, also known as Bharat. India is a land of religion, philosophy, and ancient sporting traditions like Mallakhamba and wrestling."

Deputy Chief Minister Harshbhai Sanghvi further said, "India is a land that is home to an ancient culture of 1.45 billion people and is the largest democratic country in the world. Indian humanity first contemplated its relationship with the universe and then composed the Sanskrit Vedas, Upanishads, Samhitas, and Itihasas." He said, "Sports is an emotion in India. Every morning, a mother wakes up at 4 a.m. before sunrise so her daughter can reach the ground on time for practice. This is how daily sacrifice and dedication helped our women's cricket team win the World Cup." He added, "It's not just the player who prepares for victory; it's the mother, the family, the neighbors, the entire nation who work hard." Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi said, "Our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is emphasizing the development of a sports culture in the country as part of his vision of a developed India by 2047.

India's journey to secure the right to host the Commonwealth Games 2030 has been completed through a streamlined and collaborative process with Commonwealth Sport (CS). The process formally began on January 9, 2025, when India received a Letter of Intent (LoI) invitation from the Commonwealth Games Commission. Subsequently, on January 29, 2025, the Commonwealth Sport Chief and CEO visited Gujarat to interact with the state leadership and review the preliminary vision and preparations for the Games. Subsequently, on March 13, 2025, India submitted the Letter of Intent, formally committing to host the Games. As preparations gathered pace, the first virtual kick-off meeting between India and Commonwealth Sport took place on April 29, 2025, to determine the workstream, documentation requirements, and timelines. In May 2025, a specialist consultancy agency was appointed to technically develop the bid.
