Allahabad High Court to hear Centre's Reply on Rahul Gandhi's citizenship Plea

The decision may come today in the case going on in the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court regarding Rahul Gandhi's citizenship. Let us tell you that the last hearing in this case was held on 21 April. Actually, a case is going on in Allahabad High Court regarding whether Rahul Gandhi is an Indian or a British citizen.

In the last hearing, the court had asked the central government to tell whether Rahul Gandhi is an Indian citizen or not.

Petition was filed on 1 July 2024

In the last hearing, Additional Solicitor General Suryabhan Pandey presented a status report on behalf of the Center, but the court considered it insufficient and made a strict comment and said, "This matter is of national importance, there will be no delay".

On 1 July 2024, Karnataka lawyer and BJP leader S Vignesh Shishir filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court. In this, he also alleged that Rahul Gandhi has British citizenship

What is the case of Rahul Gandhi's citizenship

The petitioner made this allegation citing a confidential mail of the British government of 2022. Vignesh Shishir has sought cancellation of Rahul Gandhi's Indian citizenship under Section 9(2) of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955. Vignesh Shishir, a resident of Karnataka, has filed a petition claiming that Rahul Gandhi had described himself as a British citizen while being a director in a UK company.

Citing the guidelines of the Election Commission, the petitioner said that a person holding dual citizenship is not eligible to contest elections.
