Even with the SC order, there was sporadic sound of firecrackers going off, and the sound got louder as night fell.

Following the violation of the firecracker ban in multiple parts of the national capital region during the Diwali celebration, residents of Delhi woke up to a dense haze surrounding the atmosphere.

It was rated as "hazardous" by IQAir with an air quality index (AQI) of 420.

However, the situation in the other two states of the nation, Mumbai and Kolkata, has also worsened due to the approaching winter and the brief Diwali celebration, placing them in fourth and eighth place among the world's most polluted cities.

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) reports that the air quality index (AQI) exceeded the 250 mark in most of Kolkata. Mumbai's Air Quality Index dropped to the "poor" category at 234 points, as reported by SAFAR-India, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research.

The Supreme Court ruled on November 7 that its order prohibiting the use of barium-containing firecrackers applies to all states and is not limited to the Delhi-NCR region, which suffers from severe air pollution.

Despite the SC order, there was intermittent noise of firecrackers going off, the intensity of which increased as night approached. Fireworks are prohibited in some form or another, but such constraints are rarely enforced.
