A shooting occurred in a crowded area in Leland, Mississippi, in the early hours of Saturday (October 11, 2025). Four people were killed and a dozen others were injured. The incident occurred in Leland, Mississippi, as people gathered for the Leland High School homecoming game.

What did the Leland Mayor say about the shooting?

Mayor John Lee has issued a statement regarding the shooting in Leland. Sharing a post on the social media platform Facebook, Mayor John Lee said, "I am deeply saddened by this incident." My condolences go out to the families of those killed in the shooting, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.'

He said, 'The incident occurred around midnight on a busy main street, as people gathered for the Leland High School homecoming game. Four people injured in the shooting were airlifted to local hospitals. The suspected shooter is still at large, and police are searching for him.'

He continued, 'It was Homecoming weekend, where everyone gathered with friends, family, and neighbors to enjoy the downtown area as usual. But this time, an incident occurred that has never happened before. Following the incident, the entire city is in a state of panic, with people hiding in their homes and block parties canceled for safety reasons.'

Mississippi Senator Issues Statement on Shooting

Following the horrific shooting, Mississippi Senator Derrick Simons confirmed the deaths of four people and said that more than a dozen others were injured. All of the injured in the shooting are adults and are being treated in hospitals. However, their conditions are not immediately known.
