Statement came amid tariff war
Trump's statement has come at a time when tension continues with India over tariff. The timing is also interesting because the SCO meeting has ended in Tianjin, China between 31st and 1st September. In which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Putin also participated. After this, Putin was also seen on the same stage with Jinping in the military parade of China on 3rd September.

50 percent tariff imposed on India
Trump has imposed 50 percent tariff on India. His reasoning behind this was that India buys oil from Russia, so this tariff has been increased as a punishment. Trump had said on Wednesday itself that he has imposed 50% tariff on India because there was a one-sided relationship between the two countries for a long time. In a press briefing, Trump said that India imposes 100% tariff on American goods. This is the highest in the world.
