Amid Pahalgam attack, India stopped Chenab water flow through Baglihar dam
After the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India has suspended the 65-year-old Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. This is being considered the biggest step taken by India to teach Pakistan a lesson diplomatically. Now according to the information, India has stopped the flow of water going to Pakistan from Baglihar dam on Chenab River and similar steps are being planned at Kishanganga dam on Jhelum River.
But this time to teach Pakistan a lesson, the government has stopped this treaty. Due to which the condition of the neighboring country has worsened.
Water will also be stopped from Kishanganga
Source aware of the matter told news agency, that India can regulate the time of water release from its side through Baglihar in Ramban, Jammu and Kishanganga Hydro Power Dam in North Kashmir. That is, the water reaching Pakistan through these dams can be reduced without any prior warning and the flow can also be increased.
India had suspended this decades-old agreement after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
This Treaty was signed between India and Pakistan in 1960 after the world bank mediation. Under this, it was decided to divide the water of the Indus River and its tributaries between the two countries.

The Baglihar Dam built on the Chenab River has also been a matter of dispute between the two neighboring countries for a long time and Pakistan had previously sought mediation from the World Bank in this matter.
Why is the Indus system important for PAK?
Under the agreement, Pakistan has been given control over the western rivers of the Indus system (Indus, Chenab and Jhelum). Pakistan uses about 93% of the water of the Indus River system for irrigation and power generation and about 80% of the agricultural land of the neighboring country depends on its water. Agriculture plays an important role in Pakistan's economy. This is the reason why Pakistan is constantly threatening war after the agreement was postponed.

After the Indus Water Treaty was postponed, Ghasharib Shaukat of Karachi-based research firm Pakistan Agricultural Research said that India's action creates uncertainty. He said that at this time we have no choice. The rivers included in the treaty play an important role not only in crops, but also in cities, power generation and livelihood of millions of people.
Summary
Although after the agreement was postponed by Indian Government, Pakistan's former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had said, 'Either our water will flow in the Indus River, or their blood will flow.' India had reacted strongly to this statement.
Not only this, but Pakistani politicians also considered the decision to suspend the agreement as a direct declaration of war. The Indus River is of great importance to Pakistan and the panic of its leaders after the agreement was postponed is a testimony to this.
