In light of recent attacks in the Union Territory, the Home Minister emphasized the need for complete area domination and enhanced coordination among the Police, Army, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) stationed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Strengthening local intelligence was also highlighted as a crucial aspect of bolstering security.
The Home Minister is set to scrutinize the area domination plan, zero-terror plan, law and order situation, cases related to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and other pertinent security issues during the review.
Key officials attending the meeting included Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, National Investigation Agency DG Dinkar Gupta, Director Generals of Central Reserve Police Force, and the Border Security Force.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and Army Chief General Manoj Pande were also present.
The meeting follows an encounter in Rajouri's Poonch region on December 21 last year, resulting in the loss of four soldiers and injuries to three others. Previous incidents in November and April-May 2023 were also discussed, highlighting the intensified militancy in the Pir Panjal region.
A similar high-level review meeting on Jammu and Kashmir's security situation was chaired by the Home Minister on January 13 and April 13 last year.
During these meetings, Shah underscored a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and reiterated the government's commitment to strengthen the 360-degree security mechanism to eliminate support systems for terrorists.
