Amit Shah to introduce two bills on J&K in Rajya Sabha today

On the fourth day of the Winter Session, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to introduce two crucial bills for consideration and passage in the Rajya Sabha. The proposed legislation are the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, both previously approved by the Lok Sabha during a comprehensive debate.

The Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, aims to modify the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act of 2004, addressing reservations in employment and educational institutions for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other backward classes. The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, seeks to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, specifically focusing on the allocation of assembly seats, with increased provisions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Simultaneously, discussions on the country's economic situation, initiated by Derek O'Brien on December 5, will persist in the Rajya Sabha. In the previous economic debate, Congress MP P Chidambaram questioned the apparent disparity between India's rapid economic growth and the on-ground impact, emphasizing concerns about inflation and unemployment. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi countered, attributing India's robust GDP numbers to the "growth rate of Hindutva."

Additionally, BJP MPs Anil Jain and Neeraj Shekhar are anticipated to present the 249th and 250th reports of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs in both English and Hindi languages.

The Winter Session, which commenced on December 4, is scheduled to conclude on December 22.
