Annual budget allocation for railway projects increased 14 times in 10 Years to Rs. 8,332 Crores
Gujarat has witnessed a significant surge in fund allocation for railway projects and the implementation of these projects over the past 10 years. The budget allocation of Indian Railways for projects falling partly or fully within Gujarat from 2009-14 was Rs. 589 crore per year. This figure has now increased more than 14 times to Rs. 8,332 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. Additionally, the average operational length has increased by 1.4 times, reaching 186 km per year.
Minister Ashwini Vaishnav provided the information
The average length of projects implemented in Gujarat has also increased by 1.41 times, reaching 186 km per year during 2014-23, compared to 132 km per year in the period 2009-14. Union Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnav, shared this information in response to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Shri Parimal Nathwani regarding the pending and existing railway projects in Gujarat on February 2, 2024.
Rupees. Executed at a Cost of Rs. 6,113 Crore
According to the Minister's statement, as of April 1, 2023, railway projects partially or fully within the state of Gujarat covering a distance of 3,200 km cost Rs. 30,789 crore. Out of 36 railway infrastructure projects (including 6 new lines, 18 gauge conversions, and 12 doublings) in the planning, sanction, or construction stages, 735 km of projects have been implemented at a cost of Rs. 6,113 crore.
Significant Increase in the Number of Implementations
1,677 km of railway projects partially or completely fall within Gujarat. The total length of railway projects executed during the period 2014-23 stands at 1,677 km, compared to 660 km in the period 2009-14. Since 2014, Indian Railways has experienced a substantial increase in both the number of implementations and fund allocations for projects. Nathwani sought details on the ongoing and pending railway projects in the state of Gujarat, including their estimated cost, period of completion, and when these projects are likely to be completed.
