Appeasement v/s satisfaction on Waqf Bill...Politics heated up of on bill amendment
The battle on the streets has started on the Waqf Bill. The second phase of the budget session of Parliament is going on and the Waqf Amendment Bill can be introduced in the House next week. This bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 8 August 2024, but after the uproar over it, the bill was sent to the JPC. But now the government can bring this bill to the Lok Sabha anytime to get it passed.
From Muslim organizations to opposition parties, everyone is angry with this bill. They allege that the government wants to take over the Waqf properties through the bill. The opposition is standing strongly with the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board. So that the Modi government can be cornered.
Appeasement v/s satisfaction on Waqf Bill
At the same time, AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi has warned Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, important allies in the central government, on the pretext of this bill that if they support the Waqf Bill, then as long as the world exists, the Muslims of India will remember this.
On the other hand, JPC President Jagdambika Pal has said that this is just a political protest. The bill has not even come yet, but the opposition has started protesting.
Opposition's protest at Jantar Mantar
Let us tell you that the Waqf Board has property of more than 9 lakh acres in the country and the second surprising fact is that after Railways and Defense, the Waqf Board has the most property in the country. At present, a political battle has started from the House to the road on the Waqf Bill.
Today, the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board protested at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, in which many Muslim MPs from Samajwadi Party and Congress also participated along with Asaduddin Owaisi. But the special thing is that Hindu organizations also protested in support of the Waqf Amendment Bill.
War to the finish on the Waqf Amendment Bill
Now the war between BJP and the opposition has intensified on the Waqf Amendment Bill. On the one hand, Asaduddin Owaisi has termed this bill as spreading anarchy. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party warned of a protest from Parliament to the streets against the Waqf Bill, calling it against Muslims.
Echoing the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, the opposition is saying that in the name of security and transparency of Waqf, there is a conspiracy to take over the property of Waqf.
However, BJP is saying that laws are made in Parliament, not at Jantar Mantar. BJP is also saying that the opposition should not be under the illusion that it will create another Shaheen Bagh under the guise of protest. So Congress is saying that it will not let its constitutional right be killed.
Reason for the dispute
Now understand the reason for the dispute. Waqf means any movable or immovable property, which any person who believes in Islam can donate for religious purposes. This donated property has no owner... that is why Islam considers Allah to be the owner of this property... but institutions like Waqf Board have been created to manage this property.
Anyway, the battle of appeasement vs. satisfaction between BJP and the opposition is now intensifying on the Waqf Amendment Bill.
Objections of Muslim organizations and the opposition regarding the Waqf Bill
- Now the High Court can be approached for a decision on any property dispute of Waqf. However, earlier the decision of the Waqf Tribunal was considered final.
- Now the Waqf cannot claim its right on any property without donating it, but before this, any property became the right of the Waqf with a claim.
- There should be two women and two members from other religion in the Waqf Board. But earlier the board did not have women and members of other religions.
- The collector will be able to survey the Waqf property and has been given the right to determine the property.
Summary
On the other hand, JPC President Jagdambika Pal has said that this is just a political protest. The bill has not even come yet, but the opposition has started protesting.
