He had to wait 8 months for this achievement, but finally became the first Indian player to take 100 T20I wickets. The left-arm seamer made his debut against New Zealand in 2022 and has been taking wickets at a rapid pace ever since.

An 8-month wait for a wicket

Arshdeep Singh was stuck at 99 wickets because India left him out of the final two matches against England in January 2025. There were no T20I matches scheduled before the Asia Cup, so he had to wait a long time to reach this milestone.

His wait in the Asia Cup was also extended because India played only one specialist fast bowler in the first two matches. Jasprit Bumrah played the first two matches and was accompanied by a large number of spinners. Arshdeep got his chance in the third group-stage match of the tournament. He took 1 wicket for 37 runs in 4 overs.

Arshdeep Sets This Record

Arshdeep not only became the first Indian to take 100 T20I wickets but also became the fastest fast bowler to reach 100 wickets in this format. He achieved this feat in just 64 matches. He is the third fastest bowler among Full Member countries to reach 100 wickets. Only Rashid Khan (53 matches) and Wanindu Hasaranga (63 matches) are ahead of him. Arshdeep is the fastest among fast bowlers, followed by Haris Rauf (71) and Mark Adair (72).

Fastest to 100 wickets in T20Is (all countries):

Rashid Khan – 53

Sandeep Lamichhane – 54

Wanindu Hasaranga – 63

Arshdeep Singh – 64

Rizwan Butt – 66
