Australian PM acknowledges 'Wonderful Achievement' in successful Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has commended Indian authorities for the successful rescue operation that freed 41 workers trapped inside the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarakhand. He expressed pride in the significant role played by Australian Professor Arnold Dix, a tunnelling expert, who supervised the operation, navigating various challenges over two weeks.

The incident occurred on November 12 when a section of the tunnel collapsed between 205 and 260 meters from the Silkyara side, trapping workers beyond the 260-meter mark. The successful evacuation was achieved at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, with the rescued workers welcomed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Union Minister VK Singh.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised the rescuers, emphasizing the example set by their "humanity and teamwork." In a post on his social media platform (X), PM Modi expressed admiration for the courage and patience of the trapped individuals, wishing them well and good health.
After the safe evacuation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally spoke to the 41 rescued workers over the phone, further underlining the government's appreciation for the successful rescue operation.
