According to a senior official of the Ministry of Cooperation, Bharat Taxi will be officially launched in Delhi and other cities by the end of January. The service received a very good response during the pilot project conducted in early December. Seeing this enthusiasm, the government has now decided on a full launch. After this, there are plans to start it in other cities as well.

5,500 Rides every day

Bharat Taxi was launched as a pilot project in Delhi on December 2, 2024.  Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, told PTI in his statement that, "The service has received a tremendous response during the soft launch. On average, about 5,500 rides are being recorded every day, of which approximately 4,000 rides are from the airport and 1,500 rides are from other areas of the city. This includes cab, auto, and bike services."

1.4 Lakh Drivers Registered on this App

More than 1.4 lakh drivers have registered on the Bharat Taxi app so far. This figure shows that drivers are liking this cooperative model. The key feature is that drivers do not have to pay any commission on this platform. The government had already stated that drivers in this cooperative taxi service would receive their full earnings.

Supported by 8 Government Institutions

Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited is being operated with the support of eight major cooperative institutions in the country. These include Amul, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NDDB, NCEL, NCDC, and NABARD. The company's board also includes two elected representatives of the drivers, ensuring that the drivers' needs and demands reach the government directly.

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced this cooperative taxi service in Parliament in March 2024. The main objective of this initiative is to reduce the dependence of commercial vehicle drivers on private companies and ensure they receive their full earnings. At that time, Amit Shah had said, "The profit from this cooperative taxi platform will not go to any wealthy businessman. This profit will go to the taxi drivers."

Bharat Taxi app offers features

Under the zero-commission model, drivers can keep their entire earnings, and cooperative profits are distributed directly among the drivers. This platform is also integrated with transit services like the metro rail, allowing users to book various types of journeys on a single app. A partnership has also been established with the Delhi Police for the safety and security of passengers and drivers.
