Bhima Koregaon Case: SC Refuses To Entertain Varavara Rao's Plea To Modify Bail Condition
Bhima Koregaon Case: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to consider a plea seeking modification of the medical bail conditions imposed on activist Varavara Rao, accused under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in the Bhima Koregaon case. Under this condition, he must seek prior permission from the trial court if he wishes to leave the Greater Mumbai area.
A bench of Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi dismissed the petition after hearing arguments from senior advocate Anand Grover. The petition was filed considering Rao's age and deteriorating health. The court stated that the government would take care of him.
Rao will have to seek the trial court's permission to leave the Greater Mumbai area.

Accused Varavara Rao fails to get relief from Supreme Court
Grover argued that Rao has been on bail for four years, but his health is deteriorating. His wife used to take care of him, but now she has moved to Hyderabad, so there is no one to care for him. The senior lawyer said, "Even today he fell down due to dizziness. Rao's pension is 50,000 rupees, but he has to spend 76,000 rupees every month.
In Telangana, he receives free healthcare, but in Greater Mumbai, he has to spend money on healthcare every time."
Petition dismissed by SC
Justice Maheshwari disagreed, saying, "The government will take care of his health; otherwise, go to the same court; we are not interested." Grover also pointed out that the case proceedings are at the stage under Section 207 of the CrPC and the trial is unlikely to be completed soon. He also requested that Rao be allowed to file an application later, but the court refused to record such a statement in the order.
Bail was granted in 2022
In August 2022, a bench comprising Justices UU Lalit, Aniruddha Bose, and Sudhanshu Dhulia granted Rao medical bail, taking into account his age, health conditions, and the 2.5 years of actual detention he had already undergone. Furthermore, the bench noted that the trial in the case had not yet commenced, and despite the filing of a charge sheet, charges had not yet been framed. It was ordered that Rao would not leave the Greater Mumbai area without the express permission of the special NIA court in Mumbai, and would not abuse his liberty in any way, contact any witness, or attempt to influence the investigation
