Bihar SIR Row: 22 lakh voters are dead, but why are 7 lakh double… SC question EC on SIR
Bihar SIR Row: Hearing was held in the Supreme Court today on the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision Campaign i.e. SIR going on in Bihar. During this, the apex court said in its order that the Election Commission has complied with our instructions. An affidavit has also been given on its behalf. While giving the order, the court said that objections and claims should be filed by the BLAs of political parties. The BLAs of 12 political parties, which are 1.6 lakh BLAs and 16 lakh objections and claims per ten can be filed in the remaining ten days.
New voters are being added. Representatives of political parties should provide information about objections and claims to the Election Commission by the due date.
The Commission claimed that political parties have enough BLAs who can help in verification. The petitioner alleged misuse of Form 6 and 8, which was rejected by the Commission.
Supreme Court asked Election Commission on SIR
The court said that we are surprised that 1.6 lakh BLAs belong to political parties and objections are not coming from their side. They should make objections and claims. Every voter has the right to apply to become a voter and also register an objection. These voters should be helped by 12 political parties. The Supreme Court said that political parties should instruct their BLAs to help voters in all areas including blocks, panchayats, relief camps, villages. Other documents including Aadhaar, which are not in the eleven, should be provided.
Every voter has the right to apply to become a voter
The Election Commission told the Supreme Court that 22 lakh voters are dead and 7 lakh have double. On this, the court said that we assume that 22 lakh voters are dead, but why double? The Election Commission said that it is the duty of the Commission to not allow double EPIC and those who keep EPIC outside Bihar also, their EPIC has to be removed.
What instructions were given to the Bihar Election Commission?
The apex court said that we order the Bihar CEO to issue notice to the president and general secretary of political parties to file a status report on the court's order on this issue. BLAs can offer objections and claims in 65 lakh deleted cases online and in person. Election Commission's BLOs should give a note to confirm the objections and claims provided by BLAs given in physical form. Acknowledgement should also be given regarding applying on the website.
22 lakh voters are dead, but why are 7 lakh double - SC
Earlier, petitioner's lawyer Vrinda Grover said that this problem is beyond 65 lakh people. The Supreme Court Justice said that we are just surprised at the inaction of political parties. After appointing BLA, what are they doing? Why is there a distance between the people and local political persons? Why are political parties silent in the name of cooperation? Why are they not coming forward and you should file a status report regarding this.
At the same time, the Election Commission said that no political party including ADR is coming forward and making allegations here without any basis.

Advocate Prashant Bhushan, who appeared on behalf of the petitioner, said that there is flood in many areas of the state, they cannot come. While the SC said that political parties BLA should help. On this, the Commission said that all political parties have BLAs. The Supreme Court asked the question that why are political parties not coming forward, work on the ground apart from allegations, the reality will be known.
Political parties have 1.60 lakh BLAs'
The Commission said that political parties have 1.60 lakh BLAs and if in the next ten days, each BLA verifies 10 objections or claims, then verification of 16 lakh people can be done. This action by BLA will be important among the 65 lakh left out people and they will also be able to know the reality. They can help by meeting people digitally and personally.
Summary
The Supreme Court asked the Commission how many new 18-year-old voters have been added and whether BLAs can be useful in adding new ones as well. The Election Commission said that the ERO cannot delete anyone's name without proper investigation and after this, people have the right to appeal to the DM-CEO, who can appeal till September 25.
