Bihar SIR: SC does not stay EC drive, again asks EC to accept Aadhaar, voter ID

SC refuses to stay draft electoral rolls publication in Bihar
The Supreme Court on Monday questioned the Election Commission's reluctance to accept Aadhaar and Voter ID cards as valid documents in the ongoing voter list revision in Bihar and said that any document can be forged. However, the court has refused to stay the Special Intensive Revision for the time being.

According to the report, a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said, "Any document on earth can be forged." The court said, "Include these two documents. Tomorrow you will see not only Aadhaar, but 11 out of 11 can be forged. What did the Election Commission argue?
Supreme Court on Bihar rolls revision
Advocate Rakesh Dwivedi said on behalf of the Election Commission (EC) of India. He argued that there are big problems related to ration cards. He also mentioned, that EPIC cannot be decisive either.
However, the court questioned his stand. Justice Bagchi remarked,You say that as per the SIR notification, no document is decisive.

Suppose a person uploads the form with Aadhaar, then why will you not include it in the draft." Justice Kant said, "Why only EPIC etc., any document can be forged.

What did the petition say?
The Association for Democratic Reforms said in its petition, 'The petition states that the SIR order of 24 June 2025, if not repealed, may arbitrarily and without due process deprive millions of citizens of the right to elect their representatives in this election, thereby disrupting fair elections in the country, even though these are the basic structure of the Constitution.
