Blast near Israeli Embassy in Delhi, letter containing the words-Palestine and Israel found
New Delhi: On December 26, a low-intensity blast occurred near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, India. The incident invited police attention which launched an investigation into the matter.
The blast which took place in the Chanakyapuri area of the national capital caused the security agencies to increase security near the Israeli Embassy and other places which are frequently visited by Jews in the capital. Agencies like the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have also launched an investigation into the matter to reach to the end of the cause.
Evidence found in the search near the Israeli Embassy
The police immediately searched the area for potential evidence and remnants of explosives but were unsuccessful in their search. The police, however, found a letter that contained could, abusive language which potentially targeted the Israeli authorities. The letter contained abusive words for the Israeli Ambassador for India. There remains a possibility of a chemical explosion. The letter was sent to the forensic department for fingerprints.
Since the investigation was started, the authorities have started scanning the CCTV footage of cameras installed in the nearby areas. The authorities have found two men walking near the embassy minutes before the blast.
Media reports suggest that the letter contained words like Palestine, Zaonist, and Gaza. The writers of the letter identified themselves as being from "Sir Allah Resistance."
Threat to Israeli citizens
The Israel National Security Council on Tuesday issued an advisory for Israeli citizens who are in India to not visit places that can become a potential harm to harm. The advisory advised Israelis to stay away from crowded places which are usually visited by people from the West. It said "crowded places (malls, markets) and places identified as being used by Western/Jewish and Israeli elements.”
Israel's Deputy ambassador to India Ohad Nakash Kaynar informed that all the workers and diplomatic staff of the embassy are safe. Israel National Security Council highlighted that the blast could be an attack.
Delhi Police in Action
After the blast on Tuesday, Delhi Police received the information and rushed to the place to investigate the matter. Although the police did not find any evidence after the search, it did find a letter that might be kept knowingly for the police.
The security forces denied calling the incident a blast, however, the media reports suggest that the security guard heard a loud noise and saw smoke.
The incident could be a planned attack by a Palestinian supporter who might have tried attacking the embassy in rage for their disappointment over Israel's role in the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
