Boat capsize in Bihar, 20 rescued, several missing
In a tragic incident, a boat carrying 33 people capsized on in Bihar's Muzaffarpur District. The boat capsized in the Bagmati river flowing through the district. The incident occurred on Thursday morning.
According to reports, rescue operation is going on. The rescue team has recued around 16 people till 3 pm. Others are still missing, including children. The boat was carrying men, school students and even women when the accident occurred.
According to DSP (East) Shahriyar Akhtar, the people were crossing the river on boat when the boat capsized due to being overloaded.
According to police, a total of 20 people were rescued and further rescue was continuing. the rescue operation was being undertaking near Madhurpatti ghat near Bhatgama village.
According to locals, the accident occurred around 9:40AM when women and school students were on boat crossing the river. The children were middle school students of the ages between 8-14 yrs.
While attending an event in Muzaffarpur, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar informed the press that he had directed the Muzaffarpur district magistrate to initiate a search operation and ensure compensation for the grieving families.
According to media reports, around 10 children are still missing in the incident.
These incidents, reminds the country of the reality of Bihar. Some major questions arise after these incidents- Why do people in Bihar still have to cross the river with boats? Why do they have to risk their lives everyday? Why do school students have to cross the river on boat? why does the area not equipped with basic infrastructure? The situation of crossing the river on Boats stands in stark contrast with the Metro of Delhi.
