Chhattisgarh: Elephants trampled 2 children to death in Surajpur, investigation begins
Chhattisgarh: Group of elephants trampled two children of the Pando tribe to death in Surajpur district of Chhattisgarh. This heartbreaking incident taken place on Saturday night in Chitkhai, a dependent village of Maheshpur in Premnagar, where a family was living in a hut in the forest.
Around 1 am, a group of elephants suddenly entered the family's hut and completely destroyed it. During this time, the husband-wife and three children of the Pando family somehow managed to escape and save their lives, but two younger children Bisu (11) and Kajal (5) were in deep sleep, and it was too late to escape.
Elephants trampled both the children to death
Bikhu Pando was sleeping in the hut with his wife and five children. At night, a group of elephants suddenly reached the hut and started breaking it. Bikhu Pando and the rest of his family members managed to escape, but did not get time to save the children. The elephants crushed both the children badly.

However, the elephants not only killed the children, but also ate the grains kept in the hut. The family members somehow reached the village and spent the night there. As soon as they reached the spot in the morning, they saw that the hut was completely destroyed and the bodies of both the children were lying.
Forest department in action
In the meanwhile, forest department officials reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. Forest staff including DFO RR Pakra, Forest SDO Anil Singh, and Premnagar Ranger Ramchandra Prajapati reached the spot. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and investigation into the matter has been started.
Biranchibaba forest area
At the same time, the group of elephants was present in the Biranchibaba forest of Premnagar area for the last few days and was roaming in the surrounding areas. The forest department official says that the team monitoring the elephants did not fully alert the Pando family about the presence of elephants, due to which this tragic incident has been taken place.
Although panic has spread in the villages around Premnagar area due to elephant attacks. The villagers say that their lives are in danger due to the increasing number of elephants in forest.
