A clash erupted between Aam Aadmi Party workers and Delhi Police on Sunday evening during a candle march held in connection with the death of Kamal Dhyani, who fell into a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board. Following the clash, the police detained several leaders, including AAP's Delhi state president Saurabh Bhardwaj. Delhi Police did not allow the candle march and dispersed the crowd from the spot.

It is being reported that Delhi Police had not given permission to the Aam Aadmi Party and others to hold a candle march at the incident site. AAP workers and others were gathering at the spot. Delhi Police initially tried to reason with them, but seeing the situation escalate, the police detained several leaders, including AAP's Delhi state president Saurabh Bhardwaj.

Meanwhile, AAP workers have strongly criticized the Rekha Gupta government over the Kamal Dhyani death case. State president Saurabh Bhardwaj posted a photo of himself and others detained in a police van on X (formerly Twitter).

Saurabh arrived at the scene after posting on X

Earlier, Delhi state president Saurabh Bhardwaj posted on his social media handle X, writing, "Today at 5:30 pm, I will go to this place in Janakpuri to pay tribute to my brother Kamal Dhyani. Let's see how much police will be there today. Janakpuri Police Station said it's a holiday today, they didn't accept our intimation. The same shameless police that slept all night, the police that didn't even register a report for Kamal's family all night, the same police that let Kamal die, we will show their attitude again today."

Following Saurabh Bhardwaj's post, AAP workers and others started gathering at the incident site. Meanwhile, police forces from several police stations also reached the spot. The police initially tried to reason with AAP leader Saurabh. But the AAP workers remained adamant about holding the candle march. Following this, the police detained several leaders, including AAP leader Saurabh Bhardwaj.

How did Kamal Dhyani die?

Kamal Dhyani, a resident of Palam Kailashpuri, worked as a telecaller at HDFC Bank. He was returning home to Palam Kailashpuri from Rohini in North-West Delhi late Friday night. During this time, his motorcycle fell into a pit about 4.5 meters deep on Joginder Singh Marg in the Janakpuri area, which had been dug as part of road repair work. This pit was dug for the repair of a 2-kilometer-long service road. He died after remaining trapped in the pit for several hours.
