A report by the World Economic Forum (WEF) has made a major claim regarding climate change. It is reported that the WEF and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have jointly prepared this report through research.
The report claims that losses of approximately $1.5 trillion (over ₹131 lakh crore) could be incurred in the next 25 years.
Big claim in WEF report
This report assesses the impact of climate change on the food and agriculture, built environment, health and care, and insurance sectors. The economic losses are only related to the first three sectors. This suggests that the actual burden on the global economy could be much greater. The research urges companies to take steps now to protect the health of their workforce, improve operational flexibility, and safeguard productivity in order to mitigate climate change in a timely manner.

Climate change causing losses in every sector
WEF chief Eric White says that climate change is bound to affect everyone, but it can also be prevented. According to our report, climate change could cause losses of up to $740 billion in the food and agriculture sector alone. Additionally, losses of up to $570 billion in the environmental sector and $200 billion in the health sector could be incurred. Furthermore, a sharp increase in health claims on insurance policies could be observed.
This report details the potential losses from climate change over the next 25 years.
Millions of jobs threatened by rising temperatures
Rockefeller Foundation Vice President (Health) Naveen Rao said that millions of jobs are becoming insecure or even lost altogether due to rising temperatures. This is pushing families into extreme poverty. The report suggests that companies that invest early in climate adaptation can reduce risk and unlock new opportunities for innovation and growth. Companies have already begun working on this, with some even implementing it.
