Fatal Collapse of Under-Construction Parking Basement Claims Two Lives in Lucknow

In a devastating incident that unfolded late Thursday night in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, two individuals, a 27-year-old man, and his 2-year-old daughter, met a tragic end as the basement of an under-construction multi-level parking structure gave way. The calamity occurred in the vicinity of Kalindi Park, Sector-11 Vrindavan Yojana.

The victims had been residing in one of six huts situated adjacent to the ill-fated building's basement. According to the local police, the construction site was located in Sector-11 Vrindavan Scheme. Laborers involved in the ongoing construction had erected 16 huts, where they were staying.

The catastrophe struck when a portion of the basement, which had been dug out late at night, abruptly collapsed, burying approximately six huts under a mound of mud and debris. Tragically, a total of 14 people found themselves trapped beneath the wreckage.

Immediate action was taken by law enforcement, who swiftly arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and fire brigade teams, managed to rescue all 14 individuals. Among those rescued were injured children, women, and other laborers, all of whom were promptly transported to the trauma center for medical treatment.

"As soon as the information was received, a large number of police forces, SDRF, and fire brigade teams reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations and pulled out 14 people buried under the debris," stated PGI Inspector Rajesh Singh Rana. The ongoing efforts to provide relief and carry out rescue operations continue.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with construction work, highlighting the importance of stringent safety measures and precautions at construction sites to prevent such tragic occurrences in the future. The local authorities are expected to launch a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the exact cause of the basement collapse and to assess whether any negligence or violations of safety protocols played a role in this unfortunate loss of life.
