The 94th AGM of the CAB was held in Kolkata, in which Ganguly was re-elected unopposed as president. This formally put an end to the speculation that had been circulating for several years. Ganguly has re-established his position as the head of Bengal cricket after six years. Previously, he served as president of the association from 2015 to 2019. In 2019, he took charge of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and served as president of the BCCI for three years. Due to the BCCI's constitution, Ganguly had been undergoing a cooling-off period for the past three years, and upon its completion, he rejoined the CAB.

Upon assuming his new responsibilities, Ganguly clarified that his top priorities include increasing the Eden Gardens' spectator capacity to approximately 100,000 and hosting major matches of next year's T20 World Cup. He also promised to ensure the smooth return of Test cricket to Eden Gardens when India hosts world Test champions South Africa on November 14th.

He stated that work on this will only begin after the 2026 T20 World Cup, as the project will take time. Following this expansion, Eden Gardens will become the second-largest stadium in the country. Currently, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the largest with a capacity of 132,000.

Successful hosting of the India-South Africa Test is the first goal

Ganguly also stated that his first responsibility will be the successful hosting of the India-South Africa Test in November. This match will be the first Test since the historic 2019 pink-ball day-night Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens. Ganguly, while serving as BCCI president, initiated day-night Tests with the pink ball in India. Ganguly expressed hope that both teams will enjoy the excellent pitch and the wonderful atmosphere. Ganguly, a former BCCI president, said that South Africa, being the current world Test champions, will make this an exciting contest.

Will discuss with BCCI regarding T20 World Cup

Eden Gardens could host important matches like the semi-finals in next year's T20 World Cup. Regarding this, Ganguly said he would soon discuss this with the new BCCI officials. He also wished the new president.

Ganguly will represent the CAB at the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Annual General Meeting on Sunday.

Emphasis on the return of major matches to Kolkata

The former Indian captain also emphasized the possibility of hosting important matches at this stadium. He pledged to host the tournament, with the T20 World Cup 2026 being the first. It will be interesting to see how many and what significant matches of this tournament are held in Kolkata. Coincidentally, Ganguly's return to CAB coincides with the return of Test cricket to Kolkata.

The second match of the Test series between India and South Africa will be held in Kolkata in November. This will mark the first Test match at Eden Park after six years. The last Test was between India and Bangladesh in November 2019, which was the first day-night Test match played by Team India in India.

Summary

This match was awarded to Eden Park during Ganguly's tenure as CAB President and was successfully hosted just days after he became BCCI President.
