Cyclone 'Tej' Set to Escalate into 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm' by Noon: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning that Cyclone 'Tej,' currently churning over the Arabian Sea, is anticipated to undergo a significant transformation, becoming a 'Very Severe Cyclonic Storm' (VSCS) before noon on Sunday.

The cyclone's potential intensification raises concerns for coastal regions and prompts precautionary measures to ensure safety.

As of 21st October, 'VSCS Tej' was positioned over the southwestern Arabian Sea, approximately 330 km east-southeast of Socotra (Yemen), 690 km south-southeast of Salalah (Oman), and 720 km southeast of Al Ghaidah (Yemen). The IMD shared this information via its official channel.

The IMD forecasts a further intensification into an 'Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm' in the forenoon of 22nd October, emphasizing the evolving nature of the situation. Cyclone Tej is projected to make landfall between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) in the early hours of 25th October.

In addition to the Arabian Sea, the IMD is closely monitoring weather patterns in the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area in the southeast and adjoining southwest Arabian Sea has already developed into a depression. The weather agency expects this depression to advance into a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday.

Current projections place the depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal, around 620 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 780 km south of Digha (West Bengal), and 900 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh).

As these weather systems evolve, the IMD continues to provide updates and advisories to ensure the safety of the regions likely to be affected by Cyclone Tej and the depression in the Bay of Bengal. Coastal areas and residents in the storm's path are encouraged to stay informed and follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities.
