Cyclonic alert in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, IMD issues warning

The Meteorological Department has issued a cyclone alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to cyclonic winds in the Bay of Bengal. Officials said on Monday that the storm is expected to intensify from October 21st.

Indian Meteorological has issued a cyclone warning

A warning has also been issued for nearby ports. A Meteorological Department official told PTI, "Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is very likely at one or two places in the Nicobar Islands. Strong winds and thunderstorms, accompanied by squalls, reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at one or two places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on October 21, 22, and 23." He added that storms and strong winds are also likely on October 24 and 25.

Strong winds will blow

The Meteorological Department official said that from October 22 to 23, sea winds in the Andaman Sea are likely to be 35-45 kmph, gusting to 55 kmph at times. Sea conditions may remain rough for the next five days. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the Andaman Sea and along the Andaman-Nicobar coast until October 24.

Warning for tourists as well

An alert has been issued for citizens and tourists living on the island in anticipation of a storm. The administration has advised boat owners to operate their boats with extreme caution and conduct recreational activities with extreme caution, given the potential for strong waves.
