In Gujarat's Banaskantha district, a 25-year-old engineer from the Dalit community was reportedly brutally attacked by five individuals on suspicion of diesel theft. The victim, employed as an engineer at a private manufacturing company in Palanpur, fell victim to the aggression of his co-workers.

On September 28, the engineer was visited at his residence by his colleagues, who invited him to what they claimed was a fellow employee's birthday party at a hotel. However, en route, they stopped the vehicle on a bridge, accusing him of diesel theft based on the testimony of another co-worker named Bharat Thakor. During this confrontation, they allegedly subjected the Dalit man to casteist slurs and proceeded to physically assault him.

The assault left the engineer with numerous injuries, including a fracture, necessitating his hospitalization for medical treatment. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Hitendra Pithadiya, Chairman of the Congress Scheduled Caste (SC) Cell, emphasized the increasing instances of atrocities against Dalits in Gujarat. He also expressed concern about the perceived lack of law enforcement action against the culprits, stating on social media, "It has been two days since this incident, but no accused has been arrested yet, which clearly shows the attitude of Gujarat BJP government and Gujarat Police towards Dalits."

Meanwhile, the police have initiated legal proceedings against the accused individuals, and an ongoing investigation is in progress.

This distressing incident underscores the need for continued vigilance and action to combat discrimination and violence against marginalized communities, as well as the importance of a robust legal system that ensures justice for victims of such hate crimes.
