As of 6:00 am on Thursday, recorded data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) revealed Anand Vihar's air quality index at 387 (very poor), ITO, Delhi at 343 (very poor), and Wazirpur, Delhi, at a severe level with an AQI of 422. RK Puram also reported a severe AQI of 415.
At 7:00 am on Thursday, Okhla Phase-2, Delhi, recorded an AQI of 406, signifying severe air quality conditions.
The Air Quality Index categorizes air quality from 0 to 100 as good, 100 to 200 as moderate, 200 to 300 as poor, 300 to 400 as very poor, and 400 to 500 or above as severe.
The AQI serves as a simplified tool for conveying air quality information, condensing data on various pollutants into a single number, name, and color.
Last week, with an improvement in Delhi's air quality, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) lifted restrictions imposed under GRAP 4. This allowed trucks and buses, excluding BS-3 and BS-4 petrol and diesel vehicles, to enter the city, and construction activities were no longer banned.
Addressing the rising air pollution issue in Delhi-NCR, the Supreme Court suggested on Tuesday that farmers engaging in stubble burning could face economic consequences, such as being deprived of Minimum Support Price (MSP) benefits. The court made this suggestion while hearing a plea related to the deteriorating air quality in the region.
