DMRC announced that Delhi Metro will run 40 additional trips every day on weekdays from October 25. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in a statement said "The Delhi Metro will run 40 additional trips on weekdays (Monday-Friday) across its network starting Wednesday".

DMRC took this decision to increase the use of public transport by Delhi's population. It said " This has been planned to increase the use of public transport among passengers across Delhi- NCR.

Every day, Delhi Metro makes 4.300 trips and carries thousands of passengers to their destinations. Delhi Metro serves as the main transportation system for millions of commuters in Delhi.

The Environment Minister of Delhi, Gopal Rai earlier requested DMRC to increase the number of trains and shorten the waiting time.

This decision came after the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-II measures came into action to control pollution. On October 21, Saturday, the Commission of Air Quality Management in the NCR and Adjacent Areas (CAQM) implemented GRAP II measures.

What is GRAP II?

The air quality of the capital is deteriorating and the state government has implemented GRAP II to control the situation.

GRAP is basically a set of certain rules and restrictions implemented in Delhi to control traffic and pollution. When Air Quality Index (AQI) ranges from 201-300, it's classified as poor and Stage 1. When it ranges from 301-400, it falls under Stage 2 and is labeled as "very poor and severe".

Restrictions under Stage II

Adherence to PUC norms and zero tolerance over high emission of vehicles and traffic police stationed at certain areas to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Increased parking charges to encourage public transportation. CNG buses and metro services will be improved and enhanced to meet demand.
