Delhi Police Successfully Apprehends Shahnawaz, Wanted IS Terrorist with Rs 3 Lakh Bounty
Delhi Police's Special Cell successfully apprehended Shahnawaz, a wanted Islamic State (IS) terrorist, who was sought by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with the Pune ISIS module case. Shahnawaz had a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head, recently announced by the NIA. Additionally, two other suspected terrorists, Arshad Warsi and Mohammad Rizwan, have also been arrested for related actions.
The anti-terror agency launched an extensive search operation to capture three ISIS terrorists at large in Delhi, with one of them being Shahnawaz Safiuzzama Alam alias Abdullah. These individuals were reportedly linked to the 'Pune ISIS module case,' and the other two identified terrorists are Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali and Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh.
Following Shahnawaz's questioning, further investigations are expected to track down more suspected ISIS terrorists, including those who were in contact with him. Some individuals who had connections with Shahnawaz have already been taken into custody by the Special Cell.
Shahnawaz, an engineer by profession and a resident of Delhi, was initially arrested by Pune Police on July 18 after being caught stealing a two-wheeler. He managed to escape from Pune police custody and had been living in Delhi while maintaining a hideout. During his arrest, a chemical substance was discovered in his possession.
The NIA had previously arrested Shamil Saquib Nachan in the Pune ISIS module case. They claimed to have seized incriminating material from Nachan's residence in Thane district, which exposed a conspiracy involving Shahnawaz and others to spread terror and disrupt the country. According to the NIA, the accused were part of an ISIS sleeper module with plans to carry out violence on a large scale, similar to the 26/11 attacks, by creating and detonating improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Their ultimate goal was to establish an Islamic State in India.
Shahanawaz Alam played a pivotal role in this terror plan, and the authorities have effectively thwarted a potentially devastating threat. The re-emergence of dormant terror outfits has been a growing concern, making these arrests crucial in averting potential acts of terror.
