Earthquake tremors in South America, tsunami warning issued in Chile

While according to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a strong earthquake occurred in the Drake Passage region on Thursday. However, the US tsunami warning system has not issued any warning after the Drake Passage earthquake. Usually a tsunami alert is issued after such strong tremors. Tsunami warning has been issued only in Chile.

Drake Passage is known for earthquakes

The area of ​​America where the tremors were felt in the earthquake is considered sensitive to seismic activities, as it is located at the junction of the South American and Antarctic tectonic plates. According to USGS data, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10.8 kilometers. However, the German Geological Research Center has measured the intensity of the earthquake as 7.1.
