Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has said, "I am a fan of Modi."
Elon Musk, founder and
CEO of Tesla, praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, saying that
Modi “really wants to do the right thing for India.”
Musk met with Modi in
New York and later told reporters that Modi is encouraging Tesla to spend
substantially in India because he cares genuinely about the country.
I can say he truly
wants to do the right thing for India,” he said of Prime Minister Modi,
praising his leadership in ensuring that digital infrastructure is accessible
to all. He has a sincere interest in fostering innovation and supporting new
businesses, but he also has a responsibility to safeguard India’s interests. I
really like Modi.

Musk wrote, “It
was an honour to meet again,” in response to a tweet from Prime Minister
Narendra Modi on a meeting he had with American business leaders.
“In the USA, I
will also get the opportunity to meet business leaders, interact with the
Indian community and meet thought leaders from different walks of life. We seek
to deepen India-USA ties in key sectors like trade, commerce, innovation,
technology, and other such areas,” PM Modi stated in a tweet.
He also said that he
wanted to go to India soon. When asked if PM Modi had sent him an offer, he
said, “Yes, he did.” And yes, I’m probably going to go back to India
next year. I look forward to it.”
This is the first time
that PM Modi and Musk have met since Musk bought Twitter. In 2015, when PM Modi
went to California to see the Tesla Motors plant, that’s where he first met
Musk.
“Well, I’m really
very excited about India’s future. Musk told ANI, “I think India has more
potential than any other large country in the world.”
Musk said that he
learned from the meeting that PM Modi cares a lot about India because he is
pushing them to make big investments in India, which they planned to, do
but are still figuring out the right time.
Earlier, Musk was asked
by The Wall Street Journal if the automobile company had any interest in the
Indian market. “Absolutely,” was his answer.
He also said that Tesla
is expected to decide on a site for its manufacturing facility in India by the
end of this year.
“My meeting with
the Prime Minister was great, and I really like him a lot. After meeting Prime
Minister Modi today, Musk said, “We’ve known each other for a while now.
He came into our Tesla Fremont Factory a few years back.
When asked about future
plans and investments in India, he said, Yes, he believes that all three pillars
of the sustainable energy future hold great promise. The three facilities
generate renewable energy primarily from solar and wind sources. India is also
an excellent solar location. And only a small quantity of land is required to
generate enough energy to power India. He estimates that it would comprise
between 1% and 2% of India’s land area. So it is simple to accomplish.
Then,
because the sun does not shine at night, fixed battery packs must be added.
Then you need electric vehicles, and you will have a pure energy future. Also,
he believes consumers will find it exciting that this is an affordable
option.”Musk also said that he was excited about bringing Starlink to
India.
He said that remote or
rural areas that don’t have an Internet connection or have to pay a lot
for slow Internet could benefit a lot from Starlink Internet.
This meeting is
important because it happens soon after former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey said
that the Indian government, headed by the BJP, had threatened to close down
Twitter in India and raid its workers during the midst of the farmers’ protest
in 2020.
