It is believed that this figure may undergo minor changes. Before the SIR, the number of voters in Bihar was 78.9 million, and the draft had deleted 6.5 million voters. 74.1 million voters have been included in the final list. Consequently, 4.8 million voters were deleted in the SIR.
After the SIR, 65.63 lakh voters were deleted.
It should be noted that before the SIR process began, there were a total of 7 crore 89 lakh 69 thousand 844 voters in Bihar. The SIR process began on June 25. The draft voter list released on August 1 contained the names of 7 crore 24 lakh 5 thousand 756 voters, of which 65.63 lakh names were deleted.
After the draft list was released, the Election Commission issued notices to 3 lakh people. During this period, 2.17 lakh people applied to have their names deleted, while 16.93 lakh people applied to have their names added.
According to the final voter list, Patna district now has a total of 48,15,294 voters. The draft voter list released on August 1, 2025, had 46,51,694 voters.
In Bihar, the final voter list was published after the completion of a special, in-depth revision of the voter list, conducted after a gap of 22 years. Following the SIR process, the draft voter list was published on August 1st, and claims and objections from individuals and political parties were received until September 1st. The draft list contains 72.4 million voters.
Opposition continued to oppose the SIR.
However, opposition parties strongly criticized the SIR exercise just before the elections, claiming that it would deprive millions of genuine citizens of their right to vote. Following criticism from opposition parties, the Election Commission asserted that it would not exclude any eligible citizen from the voter list and would not allow any ineligible person to be included in the list.
The term of the 243-member Bihar Legislative Assembly ends on November 22nd. The last assembly elections were held in three phases in 2020.
