Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated SBI Branch in Srilanka
During her official visit to Sri Lanka on Thursday, Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated a State Bank of India branch in Trincomalee.

At the inauguration were also Senthil Thondaman, the governor of the Eastern Province; Gopal Baglay, the Indian high commissioner to Sri Lanka; and Shri Dinesh Khara, the chairman of the State Bank of India.
Sitharaman emphasized that SBI is the oldest bank in Sri Lanka, having been in operation for 159 years, and that it is still expanding both domestically and internationally.
The Indian Finance Ministry announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that SBI's presence in Sri Lanka helped the Indian government of Sri Lanka smoothly extend a $1 billion line of credit to Sri Lanka during the country's economic crisis.

It further stated that SBI Sri Lanka still plays a crucial role in assisting corporations with international trade.
In addition to in-branch operations, SBI in Sri Lanka is also expanding remittances through a strong digital platform that includes the SBI Sri Lanka YONO app and online banking, it said.
In addition to distributing passbooks to new clients and interacting with branch officials following the inauguration, Minister Sitharaman also left remarks in the visitor's book in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.
