Canada's ruling Liberal Party has chosen former Bank of Canada head Mark Carney as its leader and now he will be the new Prime Minister of the country. This decision has been taken at a time when Canada is facing US President Donald Trump's threats of trade war and merger. Carney (59) will replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation from the post in January but remains in office until the next Prime Minister is elected.

Carney has got 85.9 percent votes. Carney is the former head of the Bank of Canada and has served in important positions in the Bank of England, it is believed that due to holding these important positions, he will be successful in taking the country out of economic challenges.

Carney earned most of his wealth during his long career in the financial sector, which began with a 13-year tenure at Goldman Sachs. After earning a PhD from Oxford, he joined the investment banking giant, and worked in its global offices in Boston, London, New York, Tokyo and Toronto. Carney, 59, held key positions such as co-head of sovereign risk and managing director of investment banking, amassing what he later described as “a great fortune”.

He also dealt with complex economic challenges, including the 1998 Russian financial crisis and the 2008 global recession.

When he led Canada through the crisis

Carney once said that when I worked for Goldman Sachs, it was not the most toxic brand in global finance – it was the best brand in global finance. Transitioning from investment banking to central banking, Carney became governor of the Bank of Canada before heading the Bank of England in 2013.
