Ganesh Utsav 2025: When is Ganesh Chaturthi & the auspicious time for Ganpati installation

Ganesh Utsav 2025: This great festival starts on Bhado Shukla Chaturthi and ends with Ganesh Visarjan on Chaturdashi Tithi. This festival is dedicated to Lord Ganesha. It is believed that Lord Ganesha descends on earth during this holy hour and fulfills the wishes of the devotees. This year this festival will be celebrated from 27 August to 6 September.

Know the auspicious time for Ganpati installation on Ganesh Chaturthi?

According to the Hindu calendar, Bhado Shukla Chaturthi will be from 01.54 pm on 26 August to 03.44 pm on 27 August. Due to Udiya Tithi, Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on 27 August and Ganpati ji will be installed on this day. Since Ganpati installation is auspicious in the afternoon, Ganpati ji will be installed on 27 August from 11:05 am to 01:40 pm.

Significance of installing different idols

Different idols of Lord Ganesha give different results. Worshiping yellow colored idols is auspicious. Blue colored Ganesha is called "Uchchhishta Ganapati". He is worshipped only in special conditions. While the Ganesha  idol made of turmeric is called "Haridra Ganapati". Ekadanta Ganapati is of dark colour. Worshipping him gives amazing courage. White Ganapati is called Rinmochan. Worshipping him frees a person from debt.

The four-armed red coloured Ganapati is called "Sankashtaharan Ganapati". Worshipping him destroys troubles. Trinetradhari, ten-armed Ganesha is called "Mahaganpati". All the Ganapatis are contained in him. Generally, only a medium-sized idol of yellow or red colour should be installed in homes.

Ganesh sthapana rituals

Put a stool in the north-east (Ishaan angle) or east direction of the house and spread a red or yellow cloth on it. Make a swastika with turmeric on the stool and offer rice grains there.

Bathe the idol of Ganapati ji with milk, curd, honey, ghee and water. After this, install the idol of the Lord on the chowki. While installing the idol, chant the mantra "Om Gan Ganpataye Namah". Light a lamp and incense sticks. Offer Durva, fruits, flowers to Ganpati ji. Offer him Modak or Laddoo. After this, perform the Aarti of Lord Ganesha. Chant his mantras and chant the praises of Ganpati Bappa.

How to worship Ganpati in Ganesh Mahotsav?

If you have installed the idol of Ganesh ji in the house, then worship him regularly at both the times. Otherwise, you can worship both the times in normal lifestyle also. Worship Ganesh ji by lighting a lamp in the morning and evening. Offer him yellow flowers and Durva. Do Aarti at both the times. Follow complete satvikta for as many days as the festival is going on.
