Grave Humanitarian Crisis-Children operated for surgery without Anaesthesia in Gaza
Small children are operated without Anaesthesia in the Gaza Strip. The situation in Gaza is getting worse day by day and no party is ready to stop.
As the Israel-Hamas war completed one whole month on November 7, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza keeps deteriorating. Let us take a look at what is happening in the Palestinian conclave.
Hospitals and Children in Gaza
Thousands of children have died in the Gaza Strip after Israel launched a retaliation operation against Hamas and started going all out after Hamas. Hamas has been taking shelter in Gaza while Israeli forces continue air strikes and ground offensive. These air strikes have caused the lives of thousands of people including thousands of children.
Apart from casualties, thousands of people which includes a majority of children have been severely injured or wounded in the ongoing war. As per the current conditions, hospitals in Gaza are not just able to operate at full capacity, but they are not even close to their full capacity.
Electricity, fuel, water, food, medicines, and fuel shortages have further pushed the situation towards darkness.
According to recent reports, it was found out that small children in Gaza were forced to undergo surgeries without Anaesthesia. These injured children were undergoing amputations and brain surgeries without Anesthesia and even clean water to wash their wounds. The situation in Gaza is catastrophic and does not seem to get better.
Doctors have to make the hard decision of giving priority to one injured over the other. Hundreds of wounded and injured have to kill their hopes of getting treated as the hospital infrastructure collapse is taking place right in front of their eyes.
Doctors and veterans in Gaza opine that the conditions in hospitals are worse than they ever saw or imagined. Doctors are exhausted from the continuous treatment they have providing to the injured but the number of injured does not seem to come down.
Some health service providers continuously work for the whole stretch of the week with little rest only to find out that their own families are injured or killed in the war.
Some anecdotes are also about doctors going home and never returning to work as they get killed in the meantime. Doctors have been suffering to keep their patients alive as medical supplies, electricity, and other necessities are unavailable.
The New York Times also reported that fuel and electricity shortages have led to the shutdown of nearly half of Gaza's hospitals entirely.
Hospital or Orphanage
According to reports, many children came to hospitals after their parents were killed in the war. In other cases, their parents died in hospital making their child orphan. Hospital staff then took care of the children until their relatives were contacted to take care of the child.
Medical staff have been facing the the tough times of making decisions. They have to make a decision whether a cardiac arrest patient has more chance of living or an injured man. They make decisions based on the practicality of the possible result of the treatment because the resources are limited.
Humanitarian has been reaching Gaza in a limited manner. The aid reaching Gaza is multiple times less than the required amount.
