Heavy Rain Hits Delhi-NCR, Over 100 Flights Affected

Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds hit Delhi-NCR early Friday, disrupting air travel. The storm caused delays for nearly 100 flights and forced more than 40 to be diverted from Delhi Airport.

Red Alert Issued in Delhi

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for the national capital, warning of strong winds up to 80 kmph. The alert has been extended till 8:30 am. IMD advised people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Storm Winds Hit 78 kmph

Palam saw wind speeds up to 74 kmph, while Pragati Maidan recorded the highest gusts at 78 kmph. Other areas like IGNOU, Najafgarh, Lodhi Road, and Pitampura also experienced strong winds between 52–59 kmph.

Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

The sudden rain caused waterlogging in many areas like RK Puram, Lajpat Nagar, and Dwarka. Roads were jammed, especially during peak hours, leading to major inconvenience.

Airport Advisory and Airline Alerts

Delhi Airport posted an advisory on X (formerly Twitter), confirming weather-related delays. Air India and IndiGo advised travelers to check their flight status and stay in touch with the airlines.

Hailstorm Reported in Parts of NCR

Some parts of Delhi-NCR also saw hail, adding to the chaos. IMD warned residents to shut windows and avoid going out until conditions improve.

Weather Report: Temperature and Humidity

On Thursday, Delhi recorded a maximum of 38.6°C and a minimum of 26.8°C. Humidity dropped from 59% in the morning to 43% by evening, according to IMD.
