On November 14, the IMD predicts heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry.

The state of Tamil Nadu experienced intense rainfall, which prompted the authorities to close schools in the districts of Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Villupuram. On Tuesday, Puducherry also announced a holiday for colleges and schools.

The announcement comes after the meteorological department forecast on November 14 that multiple districts, including Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Cuddalore, and Puducherry, would experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert on Monday, warning that coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

In a post on X, the former Twitter, the IMD stated, "Orange Alert! On November 13 and 14, there is a chance of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) in the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.

The weather department said that a low-pressure area is probably going to form in the southeast Bay of Bengal as a result of an upper air cyclonic circulation. It issued a warning about severe weather and wind gusts of up to 55 kmph.

Tamil Nadu received 17% less than usual up until last week.

On November 14, there will likely be thunderstorms and lightning in a few locations, along with widespread light to moderate rain. In isolated locations throughout the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry districts of Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rain. In isolated locations over the districts of Tamil Nadu's Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, and Karaikal area, heavy rain is also predicted, according to MET official Kannan, as reported by news agency ANI.

rainfall

In Tamil Nadu, there has been extensive rainfall since the beginning of November. The majority of the state saw moderate to heavy rain last week, which caused severe waterlogging and forced the closure of schools.

Along with representatives from the district administration, State Minister of Housing and Urban Development S Muthusamy inspected low-lying areas. He promised that steps would be taken to build sturdy banks around the ponds.

There was waterlogging in Erode as a result of continuous, heavy rain, which flooded low-lying homes with rainwater and drainage water.
