BJP got the power again in Gujarat defeating Indian National Congress and Aam Admi Party. On the other hand INC defeated BJP in Himachal Pradesh, grabbing 40 seats in the 68-seat Assembly. the newly-elected party MLAs are set to meet in Shimla Friday. Congress has indicated that a resolution will be passed authorizing the AICC president to elect the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader as at least three members — state party president Pratibha Singh, former party chief Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu and outgoing CLP leader Mukesh Agnihotri — have staked claim for the Chief Minister’s post.

Further he added, “I want to thank Election Commission for conducting elections peacefully. As far as I know, re-polling in any poll booth was not required.”
If talking about the numbers, the no. of actual votes that each party got was, Congress bagged 40 seats with a vote share of 43.9 per cent (18,52,504 votes), while the BJP, with a vote share of 43 per cent (18,14,530 votes), managed to win 25 seats, and the difference of vote share between the two was just 0.9 percentage points, which is lowest since 1951. And in the past 2017 Assembly elections, the BJP had won 44 seats with a vote share of 48.79 per cent, while Congress bagged 21 seats and the gap in vote share of the two parties was 7.11 percent. Traditionally, Himachal Pradesh have never repeated the party and never made any party to get comfortable on the seat in the last 37 years.
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, a three-time MLA from Himachal Pradesh and the head of the Congress’s election committee, has emerged as a CM face in the state. Like many other leaders, he began his career in student politics and rose to the position of state unit chief. With his comfortable victory from Nadaun, Sukhu is looking to cement his position in the highest post in the state.
